NATIONAL STEERING COMMITTEE
The National Steering Committee (NSC) on the Elimination of Child Labour provides the Government of Ghana with directions towards the overall elimination of child labour in the country.
The NSC is under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare. It is to provide policy guidance for activities aimed at eliminating Child Labour in the Country. It is also to play a leading role in advocacy for the elimination of Child Labour and also provide leadership efforts to eliminate Child Labour.
The NSC has the following sub-committees to enhance its functional agility:
- Policy Advisory sub- committee
- Technical sub-committee
- Education and Skills training sub-committee
- Advocacy and Social mobilization sub-committee
- Cocoa Sector sub-committee
- Fisheries sub-committee
- Mining and Quarrying sub-committee
- Sector Activities sub-committee
THE COCOA SECTOR SUB-COMMITTEE
The Cocoa sector Sub–Committee of the NSC provides advice and technical support to the NPECLC to ensure that its work contributes to the achievement of the overall goal to the National Plan of Action on the Elimination of Child Labour.
The Technical Working Group (TWG) is a key structure of the NPECLC. The TWG is made up of 20 persons with technical experience in issues relating to Child Labour in the cocoa sector. It is chaired by the Deputy Chief Director (Operations) of Ghana Cocoa Board. The TWG provides technical advice for organization of the surveys and also provides technical backstopping to the implementation of the objectives of the NPECLC.
