A three day National Partners’ Forum (NPF) for implementing partners in Child Labour in the cocoa sub-sector ended successfully at the True Vine Hotel, Ahodwo, in Kumasi. The NPF was organised by the NPELCLC from 21st -23rd November, 2011 and brought together various stakeholders in the fight against child labour to deliberate on issues of concern, especially their activities in 2011 and look at the way forward in the coming years. The National Programme for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Cocoa (NPECLC), organised a four day Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System (GCLMS) Validation Workshop from Tuesday, 23rd August, 2011 to Friday, 26th August, 2011 at the True Vine Hotel in Kumasi. Members of the GAWU of TUC accompanied by an international delegation paid a courtesy call on the National Programme Manager of NPECLC, Prof Richard Bani, on 19th August, 2011 at the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare. The team was in the country to explore possibilities of working with Trade Unions in Ghana and West Africa in the Elimination of child labour in cocoa and the possibility of fostering and strengthening work with partners in the cocoa value chain, considering the potential of chocolate production and consumption to improve livelihood of cocoa farm families. The pre-testing of the Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System (GCLMS) Tools (Questionnaires and the Database Software) was carried out from Saturday, 12th August, to Thursday, 18th August, 2011. The pre-testing was in four (4) communities, namely: · Okumaning · Pramkese · Bamenase, and · Tweapease Four GCLMS Tools were pre-tested. They are the following: · Tool 1 (Community Register) · Tool 2 (Children at Risk) · Tool 3 (Workplace) and · The Database Software The results of the pre-testing are to be presented to a stakeholders meeting scheduled for the 23rd to the 26th of August, 2011.
